Trials, Tribulations and Triumphs of being 3,473 Miles from Upton Park and West Ham United (Aug 2011 - May 2016)
Apologies to all for the delay in sticking this one up (OUCH !), no I'm not in holiday mode, far from it, in fact I've been chasing the wolf from the door !Work a four letter word - nuff said.
"Yehaar"..Sheriff Nolan brung the Claret N Blue wagon train home in an expectful 10th place..could've finished lower...should've finished higher..the expected.. 'Gun fight at the Andy Caroll'..for the signature of the big Geordie never happened although terms were agreed he is unsure about riding shotgun for the 'Wild Wild West Ham' next season..........Another belter Andy P.
I think the AC signature could be a cliff hanger Slippery, especially with it being new managers a-go-go up the top end of the table. I'll take 10th, even if it's a cheap 10th. At one point with a about 2 games to go Sunderland were drawing and in 17th place and then they went one up and were in 11th. In fact I'll settle for a proper 10th place next season, with a side order of a serious Cup Run !
You prolly could have got odds on 10th at the start of the season, so I got no problem with that.Nice to put a few past reading and settle the jinx a bit, certainly not an end of season yawner.Let's hope the Saveloy Whip Round, the Three Step Transfer Dance, a serenade by the Walthamstow Whistling Collective or any other clean or dirty tricks will get us some AC for the next year or two. See the Boleyn out with some loud Bubblin from the faithful.
Smitty, I'm getting the impression that AC might still be interested in a return home to Newcastle, which manager Pardew is all in favour of, but The Geordie's owners (AKA The Money) are against. Word is The Scousers have accepted a price of $15 Mill, so it's now down to AC, or more likely his agent.
Yeah, I heard about that but hope springs........I think we should do whatever it takes, it was definitely a different team with him up front. Then the silly bugger will sprain a big toe opening a bottle of pop or something, that would be about par for the course.Or we have to buy someone else... Alternatives anyone?
Talk of Lukaku on loan, though I think that's just talk. Good to end the season and to end the Reading hoodoo. Reasons to be cheerful part one..two...three
Hi, great artwork, started looking after I saw the article in the programme of the Newcastle game. Love the one for the Play-off Final. Been to most home games this Season and a couple away, 10th is fine, not been the struggle I thought it would. Not sure if AC will sign and wouldn't be surprised if the Spuds came in for him. Rat looks a good signing, but only West Ham would sign a player called Rat.
Welcome on board George and thanks for the kind words. AC with Spuds ! That would be yet another Tottenham Outrage. Lets hope Rat still got some gas in his tank, there's certainly no arguing with his previous.
Filthy, can't see Lukaku being loaned out again, didn't he score something like 17 goals ?
neither can I, but there has been some chatter. Anyone know of any other targets?
Apparently not Filthy ! It all hinges on AC and his agent, I was going to write that I hope we have a good spy network - but we're West Ham, of course we don't !
F.R ...Newspapers printing the usual.. 'ol bunny & fanny'..just to fill the space in their Dailies now the seasons over...one says this & another says that....plenty of talk about A.C. not wanting to sign for us now....i reckon if the Geordies don't come back in for him...he's ours..but then again what do i know
The last game was a joy. After I heard you talk to Danny Baker I had the fortune to meet you at Leonard Street. Keep up the great work and lets hope the team make it easy for you next season.Hope it does not get too hot in the Big Apple!
Welcome to Saitch David and I hope you had a good time on Leonard St. Shoreditch sure has changed since I lived in The Smoke - it used to be deserted at the weekends ! in case you missed it, there's a nice little boozer on Leonard Street called The Unicorn, even shows the football. Gonna be 94 F in NYC today !
Just seen some pics of the new Adidas shirts for next season, look good, especially the away shirt. See ironviews.worldpress.com.
Cheers George, I'll have a gander - it's about time we had some improvement on the shirt front. I haven't made a purchase myself since my Tevez Jobserve Away (in honour of The Glorious 13th May).
Had a butchers George, they do look like they fit (Macaroni take note) and the white away is a nice tip of the stingy brim. But my final verdict will have to wait until I visit Green Street either late July or early August. They definitely are an improvement over the last few batches, but I would have preferred al capone as a sponsor to al pari !
Andy agree I like the white but. Have never been fan of the home shirts, just don't like claret and blue. Don't tend to buy shirts anyway but have a couple including an XL Umbro with Moore 6 on it. Cheers
Claret and blue can be tough George, but after 40 years of supporting I began to slowly warm to it. On the home front I have an early 60's, a chevron (worn to Danny Baker's Show) and a Fila Dr Martens, but even as a nipper I think I always preferred the light blue away with 2 claret hoops.
A.P. oi oi saveloy...the new home shirt...what a let down...i wonder how much Abramovich slipped Adidas to mug us off with this bit of 'Pollards shmutter'..The away shirt... lovely..white with the blue pin stripes ..the same as one of our early eighties Adidas away shirts....the.third kit..not much cop either...i dont know if its me minces...but kit manufacturers always seem to have a different version of claret...early 70's best shade of claret ...had a darker hue to it...agreed the best away shirt being the blue effort with the claret hoops...although the white with the one claret & one blue hoop was a belter..i dont get this trend of teams not sticking to the colours they are known by with away shirts...fluoro greens and yellows i dont get it..
Wotcha Slippery, lets just be thankful that at least for now we've skipped the Day Glo away kit ! My youngest has a white Dr Martens away shirt, with claret collar if I remember correctly ? By Fila i'm thinking ?
with Claret pin stripes A.P ....nice shirt...the west ham shop at the mo are doing the last seasons macron shirt £15 for 2.. P.S you mentioned before something about Billy Bonds being your Fav West Ham player..? Done a pic yet A..P. honouring 'Bonzo's ' lifetime achievement award.? he recieved a couple of weeks from the club..,...Good Luck Andy .......Andy
Without a doubt Slippery, Billy Bonds is my All Time Hammer and I'm sure I will pay visual tribute in due course. Socks rolled down (sod the shinguards), sweaty hair and 110% commitment - no one ever gave more than "Captain Marvel".
Hi guys, seems like most people prefer the away shirts. They been messing around with the claret, pun not intended, for years now. There was one away that was light blue with horizontal thin claret stripes that I thought looked really good. Rebok, Jobserve I think? lost mine on a holiday to Majorca. Some spaniard probably walking about with it now!Bonds was great, but Brooking was also fantastic player? Never seem anyone take a ball on the turn like he did. True gent as well, just after he retired he used to be the celeb opening my Brother in laws Betting Shops so met him a number of times. Fantastic bloke, not like the twats you get these days.
Won't have a word said against Clever Trevor, George and neither would Billy Bonds I'm certain. What was the old chant - "Trevor Brooking Walks On Water" ? When you consider what he pulled off on the dodgy pitches back in the day, imagine his talent in today's game ? He'd be a Champions League regular for sure ! On or off the pitch, in or out of football always a class act.
