I do my best not to make excuses, but in this case "posting" was delayed due to technical difficulties beyond my control - the copy shop's been closed because of the "Hurricane". I'm not sure how many from my legion of followers will not be able to access this right now, but I sincerely hope all are well and safe. PS It's not the worse result to miss !
Hope all NYC fans faired through SANDY ok! How scary. Everyone keeps saying it looks worse than it is? Anyhow, Go my Hammer Tomka! Did not catch the goal. How was it? Peace and safety all. CBTG
Cool to hear from you CBTG, with all that's gone on "a la Sandy" the Wigan game seems some time ago. But I did think of you when your boy Tomka snatched one back. Sadly a case of too little too late. Whatever the reason The Hammers just didn't show up, which must have been a drag for The Faithful who made the trek north for the match. I followed via stream on a laptop and they sounded in fine voice at the start of the match - they surely deserved better than what they got !
From what I made out they really did leave all the good bits down south. A very poor performance in a game that was winnable and would have led to more comfort in tougher times. Still, as they probably felt going into the game, "it's not the end of the world". Which goes to Sandy. Glad to hear all are well....Eddie Waring! thankfully a different kettle of fish to jimmy Savile. Yeah he always was "odd", and very creepy. Just look at him!! "Jimmy Savile....nightmare at Stoke Mandeville" Better just check I haven't been racist in this post! (all that is very interesting and maybe now a bit over the top- but about time it was addressed fully)
how much time have you got...I was thinking about racism and all the accusations flying around right now and in particular Chelsea's "pot calling the kettle, bla**" (oops!) I think, at last it is so high profile that it will be eradicated in English grounds. ( Not so sure about Serbia 'though) Jimmy Savile I don't want to think about. Eddie waring-what a voice! those muddy rugby league games on tv whilst waiting for the football scores!
Deleted my above as it contained an error and it was too late to edit. 2nd Try: Well, if English Football can wipe out racism inside their football grounds, then it will certainly be a step forward for all and sundry. Things may move slower (much slower) elsewhere but such an influence from the top of the game can only be a positive. I'm in no position to comment on the latest Chelski "race incident", but sadly I was not surprised that Terry retained his captaincy. I'll agree to fast forward past the subject of Jimmy Savile, as hopefully it has nothing to do with football. As for Eddie Waring, his only crime appears to have been to speak gibberish on Television, an occupational for any sports commentator surely. I remember my old man once commenting over the nasal tones of Eddie "Up And Under" Waring - "Does anyone play rugby other than St Helens and Wigan ?"
i thought eddie Waring's "gibberish' was wonderful. The great counterfoil to the plummy BBC tones announcing the football scores soon after he was on ,on Grandstand. Man city at the weekend....Why not?
I in no way meant to belittle Eddie Waring's talents, he was an English classic for sure, recently described by his son as a "sporting visionary" ! There were only two TV channels in Blighty back then, so if he wasn't on Grandstand it was the other one (World Of Sport ?). Man. City tomorrow ? Why not indeed Filthy ?
You've got me thinking now... I thought he was Grandstand but maybe he was "Dickie Davis" World of sport. God I loved those programmes- always had trouble with the horse racing 'though.

"Addressed Fully" ? Filthy ? Racism, Jimmy Savile or Eddie Waring ?

ReplyDeleteDickie Davis now you're talking Filthy, I've often wondered if Sade (West Ham surely ?) wrote "Smooth Operator" about him ?
