Everton v. West Ham

  1. As was so well said, by someone or other.
They were all on holiday ( in their heads)
with a bird, a beer and a quality Sav in Skegdubainess.

Good job we weren't in any danger of going down.
Think it would have been any different?

  2. comments from our house "That's history now!'
I like the cream colour of this piece of art. and the word toffee.!

  3. Smitty, I don't know our exact away form against Everton, but it sure feels like a long time since we won on Merseyside (I know we beat The Reds in '63). Even Alf Tupper commented on our lads being in "holiday mode" !

    2. Couldn't bring myself to wade through all those appalling statistics Slippery, just too grim for me. Still on a lighter note, we did win at Goodison in December 2005, more recently than I had thought, why that's almost "the other day" !

  4. Hello again Cherry Ann, I'll take that comment as a compliment. Although I can take credit for choosing the cream colouring, I cannot take it for the Toffee. It's all to do with Everton Mints, or Toffees ? They used to have Toffee Ladies (Maids?) at Everton that chucked 'em into the stands/terraces, I have no idea if it still occurs. If I remember rightly atone time my old man (RIP) used to like chocolate covered toffees, called Merry Maids, he used to buy them by the quarter out of the jar - way too expensive for me at the time !

  5. Must have been where I read it Mr P.
Typical Irons, nowt to play for so they don't.

I think it must be the weird beer they sell up there, I love mild mesself but doesn't appeal to everyone

Merry Maids - remember them- Yum!!

  6. Another excellent piece of work Andy...can i just be negative in a positive way for one mo though...E.P.Yews old skool West Ham player more than likely played his heart out for the claret ' n' blue be it the first game of the season or the last and all for a couple of quid a week....unlike saturdays shower of claret ' n ' boo players who did'nt seem to give a monkeys..we would've been better off putting west ham's young'uns on the pitch for the day if we've nothing to play for..i'm certain they would've given 200% and run their little legs off for the cause and not held up the white flag at 3:00pm... Evertons theme tune is the one from the old B.B.C 1 programme Z Cars...if Stratford Johns was still alive he would've nicked the whole team on saturday for fraud

  7. Damn good idea about the young'uns. Couldn't do worse. Could've won by shock value.

More likely Fancy Smith would've put the nut in.

  8. E.P Yews, Z cars, creamy toffees and Merry Maids all in a row. I like the "claret'n'boo and the idea of letting the youngsters off their leashes. If the seniors want an extra week off, let 'em go (and dock their wages and give them to their replacements)

  9. I'm all for "blooding" the young 'uns Slippery & Smitty, it's what the end of the season's for, but I fear this new extra dosh for higher table positions may have put an end to that too. Still if the first half at Goodison Park is anything to go by, how could the young 'uns have done any worse ? Yet another dilemna of the unsustainable overpaid player.

  10. Sorry Filthy, somehow missed your comment letting the young 'uns off their leashes. I still have a "Theme From Z Cars" single, I think it's by Johnny Keating and a great tune too. Wasn't their a Scot's copper (Desk Sargeant ) in the early series ?

  11. Tommy "T.P" Yews was by all accounts one wicked winger and the main supplier for the mighty Vic Watson'S headers. According to 1920's Hammers manager Charlie Paynter "Tom could pick a fly off Vic's eyebrows". Turns out T.P. was a mean ragtime piano player too. After The Hammers (330+ games) he worked at Fords as a charge-hand. As Slippery pointed out a far cry from today's professional soccer player !

James Ellis - from Belfast (or Derry)

Theme was Johnny Todd an old folk song, jazzed up.

  13. James Ellis of Belfast (looked that up) - well done Smitty. Not sure that Charlie Parker or Miles Davis would concur on the Z Cars Theme being "jazz", but wouldn't be surprised if Acker Bilk was left wondering how he ever let "Johnny Todd" slip past his pea shooter !

  14. Never forget him, my mum hated him ( no idea why)
used to rattle on about him through every episode.

AB- JT! Makes your spine shiver

  15. Slippery, couldn't wade my way through all those appalling statistics for this match, just too grim. Still on a brighter note we did win up there in December 2005, which is more recent than i thought.

  16. E.P.Yews...T.P.Yews...me ' minces' ain't what they used to be..whats an 'E' between friends And..would've made a Clarint'ed version of Z Cars sound a lot better than it sounds..

  17. Here's one to put the frighteners on yer Smitty - Acker Bilk's "Clarinet & Blues EP" featuring "Bubbles", "Knees Up Muvver Brown", "The Liquidator" and "March Of The Mods". Luckily it doesn't exist.

  21. I've got a few years on you Slippery, and my own 16th year was marred by Ronnie Lane's departure from The Faces - great farewell gigs, but the band never recovered.

  22. But I've digressed, back to football, I'm hoping Alf chalks up his first win against Reading on last day of the Season. Why they beat us on a regular basis is beyond me and I demand a halt, pronto !

  23. I don't know either but we can't do much against Wigan either. One for the chin scratchers.
( Balated congrats to Latics for giant killing excellence in the FA Cup)
We'll see if holimode prevails in which case Alf could could easily burst something.

  24. Good...evening...afternoon..morning...i heard a few weeks ago Reading Fans will be giving this game a swerve due to the £49 entrance fee..(West Ham have deemed this game Categorie 1...the same as if we were playing Man Utd/City..liverpool..Arsenal..etc)...... the 2 Daves milking away at 'ten to the dozen'..& urging the fans to turn the Boleyn ground into a sea of Claret & Blue and helping them to do it by selling C&B flags at £7 & trying to offload the last of the Macaroni Replicant kit before Adidas move in next month..Me and my teenage son's last games tomorrow on our season tickets...or so i thought until my son turned up around my gaff 2 days ago(lives with his mum during the week)and without batting an eyelid said he had renewed the season tickets for next season for the pair of us...i was stunned....Any way Poltergeist has shown the direction toward the light by Sam' Van Helsing' Allardyce & apparently the Rat deal is back on.....good luck And
