Arsenal v. West Ham

  1. Oh well we tried. Looked good from the off but we lost the plot.
Considering we live and die by the hoof there was some sad looking clearances
( Downing you wuss take note)
Fairly entertaining though, not a total waste.

Nocci looked good I like him, ditto Armero. Hope they get some playing time
    and are back next season.
Carrol was pretty much a non entity, but showed his one dimentioness with that pass from Nocci. Would have been a class goal if he could run!
Winston looked like dross, hopefully that will help us keep him, I think he needs a pre season and some time to get back to form.
Always interesting to watch Diame too. Minute to minute a different guy. Rarely see a shot from him that doesn't end up in Row Z, if he could keep it down he'd be a threat.
If this lot shows up we should be good to go against Palace.

  2. Downing just didn't seem to want the ball at all Smitty, I won't nit pick him on that clearance, but if he's not going to have a go our options going forward are pretty slender. As for the clearances in general, if you're going to just knock it up the park to Arsenal you're going to lose - it's that simple !

  3. There were quite a few pretty sad clearances, fortunately his was the only one that cost us.
He was generally pretty crap all afternoon.

  4. Beg to differ there Smitty, I think Diame's "clearance" to Vermaelen led straight to The Gooners second ! And in the meantime I see Palace beat Everton up on Merseyside - their on a bit of a run !

  5. Palace ain't the mugs they once were. Not an easy game by any means.
What do you reckon to Jarvis NOT taking a spill?

  6. Just got it..my Disney trivia is a bit rusty...Jiminy Cricket from Pinochio..

  7. Glad you brought that up Filthy, I for one applaud him - he could keep going so he did- a true gesture of sportsmanship. Sadly I doubt if the "football media" have covered it, but I'd be happy to be wrong. I'm not sure many if any "true forwards' (I consider Jarvis a winger) would have done the same, even the ones on our team. Wouldn't even be surprised if he got some criticism for staying up in the dressing room. "The Italian contribution to the game" (copyright Sir Alex) has become part of it's very fabric - maybe Jarvis thought he would throw the defence for a loop by staying up. I can imagine defenders protesting to the ref about someone staying up !

  8. I was thinking of Jiminy Cricket a la East London, but you're right the drawing is from Disney, although hew was originally created in the 1880's by the writer Carlo Callodi for his children's best seller "The Adventures of PInnochio" !

  9. I think I know what a clearance is now. The guy with the ball thinks he has no shot, is getting in trouble of some sort., fucked up & and decides to kick it down field to the other team, like if they had intentional interception's in US football?
When I went on the website to check the score they were promoting tickets to next season as the Penultimate one at their current stadium. So they are moving in 2 years to a new place? Is that good, bad or nobody cares? I thought they'd been playing at the current location for decades or maybe centuries? Is it screwing with tradition or have they bounced around over the years?

  10. You bring up two points there Clueless, I'll take 'em one at a time. A "clearance" is when the ball is cleared from a dangerous or potentially dangerous situation - often but not always by a defender. A good clearance is when the ball is played out of danger to another player on your team who in torn might instigate a counter attack. A bad clearance is when you knock the ball away and straight back to the opposing team who can now attack again. Better to stick it out of play, even though the other team gains possession, at least it gives your team time to organise. "When in doubt - stick it out" - that's my motto, make sense ?

  11. West Ham are leaving Green Street, their home since 1904 and they are moving to The Olympic Stadium in Stratford and so will remain in East London. This is a massive change for club and fan alike - a new state of the art Stadium with almost twice as many seats to fill, obviously opinions are divided - Tradition V. Progress. I fall in with the pro-move mob as the only way for a club like West Ham to survive is to compete with the bigger clubs and that means "money to spend". I shall forever miss Upton Park, where my father, uncles and both Grandfathers went, when we move and I know I shall cry like a baby. But the world turns and football has moved on, I think we too must turn and move on, many would disagree.

  12. I think I was reading too much into it! Jiminy Cricket pulling up Pinnochio (allardyce) for claiming the team would win. I don't think Allardyce has a conscience anyway.

  13. I guess it could have been better executed filthy, but behind Jiminy is meant to be a claret, blue, red and white Rorschach test ! While on the subject of tests, Palace will certainly present one tomorrow players and fans alike ! Allardyce v. Pullis - "The Beautiful Game" indeed !

  14. How is anyone getting a ticket to the last game? They probably have season ticket holders and some VPI people all set. Any of the games during that season will be sad, but I can't imagine the scene at the last one. They'll probably have a lot of security, mobsters and the old bill everywhere. Do you think everyone will rush the field to grab nets, poles or pieces of sod for keepsakes? They've done that to some old stadiums over here that don't have 1/2 the history or tradition.

  15. Tickets to the last game Clueless? I have no idea whatsoever, but even an idiot would figure they're going to be trading hands for serious money. I'll just be hoping to make one game in the last season and you're right there will have to be bouncers galore, as the current owners will be hoping to sell as many of the "fixture and fittings" as they can. On that front I'll quite happily settle for a brick - which I imagine will be on sale with a substantial "mark up".

  16. I noted the Rorsach test, and very well executed it was too! But I couldn't remember what they are meant to test. Sanity maybe? in which case very appropriate! On the Jarvis staying on his feet thing, I would like to see it catch on, and for the "authorities" to introduce retrospective fining/banning for diving. I saw that the rozzers had misplaced some video evidence in the Tomkins charges of being in a famed reality TV Essex nightclub. I guess it just delays proceedings...

  17. Filthy whenever the words "Essex" and "Nightclub" come up, you don't have to wait long for "West Ham player" to appear too ! I'm not saying Tomka misbehaved himself - I would'nt have a clue, but I'd bet the lot he was there !

  18. i dont think it ever registered in Matt Jarvis Head to go down in the box even though he was fouled as he aint got the mind set of a forward or a cheat (ref shouldve given us a penalty anyway as he was fouled)..Downing..(dont like him waste of money) and Jarvis..(like him gives it 100% every time ive seen him play)..couldnt cross their eyes let alone a ball this season
them cheating bastard players who con penalties or fall over if they so much as get breathed on should get an automatic 3 game ban...what is it that F.I.F.A & THE F.A call it nowadays ..SIMULATION.. owadays was known as.. CHEATING
