West Bromwich Albion v. West Ham United

  1. Always been impressed by the sportsmanship shown by WHU over the years but this was outstanding over the last couple of weeks. Now we're probably safe, letting Mel and the boys get their first home win for donkeys and giving them a boost from relegation, pure class. Going 2 up top with no wingers was a very subtle way to give Palarse the win, although I think they'd have done it without our help. I'd like to think Alf could have thought of another way to help WB but no one cottoned on first time so I guess he thought it was good for another go. It does seem by his manner that he thinks its a real tictac so we all seemed convinced, took me a while to twig but I think I've sussed it.
Don't think we'll do it against Spuds though, he'll probably try something with the wingers again though, probably swap Linda and Jarvis over or move Noble to the back 4 and let Carroll rule midfield.

We'll finish 17th, a comfortable 1 point ahead of the drop, blood pressure high, turgidly swinging in to next season, Prozac & razor blades ready for the same before they move to the OS, where the tourists rerouted from the Millenium Dome by a subtle series of bungs to the coach drivers, will be amazed at such creativity.
I, and the cartel I'm forming, will clean up running coach trips to Accrington to watch cheaper but slightly less subtle footie for those it seems are getting headaches trying to get to grips with all this that is going right over our heads.

  2. Well if we do finish 17th Smitty, I think a change of manager is a dead cert. My #2 son reckons he's already gone. But being as I'm still humming "The Impossible Dream" with an eye on Spuds on Saturday (morning for me) - I have to accept the possibility of another 3 points. Still even a third win over Spuds won't be the decider - either way, without evidence to the contrary I assume the Brady Bunch will decide on the basis of whether they think he can keep us up next season.

  3. I'd love to think we'd get your wished for Hat Trick over Spuds but I can't see it.
Still, with a possible Sam Masterplan, it could happen I suppose.
I think his rep as a safe pair of hands is pretty much shot now, so it depends on whether the premier money is worth playing to half empty seats, probably more people would be there to see the Hawaiian Hammers.

  4. No arguing on the once safe hands Smitty and surely they can see it ? Both Davids were at The Hawthorns and the Away support is usually considered our most positive, so they must get the picture. The latest Super Information Highway Poll has a 77.9% "get rid of him" vote. Mrs A. shoudn't splash out on anther Docklands Light railway yearly right now ! Glad you noticed the tip of the ukele to The Hawaiin Hammers - they were the best thing on the box during the match - so named for their sartorial preferences (I doubt any of them have been much closer to Hawaii than watching Jack Lord).

  5. See it or not looks like they'll stick to the end of the year, but he really has to go then.
Tactics non existent, morale probably at rock bottom losing the last however many.
Money or no, they have to do it or they'll be playing to 25 people and a dog next year.
However it goes at Spuds I watched Palace & Citeh, Palace were outplayed and outgunned but they ran their hearts out and went down swinging the full 90, made you want to cheer just for the effort.
Citeh'll not get out of 2nd gear and run rings round us and probably put another 6 in even if we have 11 and the bus in the box. Gonna be excruciating to watch.

  7. I deleted the above as it wasn't quite what I wanted to say. 2nd Go: Smitty you say "they'll stick to the end of the year" but I'm not so certain. There has to be some kind of summer war chest (alright skirmish box) and if they wait until January, they'll be asked to spend again ! Also looking at their previous Zola, Grant and Fry (at Brum) all got the Big E in early May and as far as I can tell they've never hired management from the January Sales. The more I think about it the more I reckon Alf's going.

  8. I'd love to think they'd bag him now or in 2 weeks but I think they'll bottle it and hold out till we're screwed half way through the season, tis the way.
    Hope not but...............
I'd be a happy camper if they did no matter who came in, I'm sure we'd moan but at least it would be a chance, Can't see any at all with BFS.

  9. As i see it this season to me is like being in a sealed glass box with a load of other people and the box has been put into the sahara desert and everyone had a last meal of curry ,baked beans and guiness and the air inside the box is unbearable, then someone notices that Bubbles the bear the west ham mascot has slipped into the box and died in the corner and is decomposing, imagine the relief to those that survived the ordeal when the glass box is smashed and from nowhere a lovely fresh mountain breeze clears all the old stench out the box...West Ham have become a boring team to watch ..playing lack lustre football and no sense of belief...Sam Allarbuckle done us a favour getting us promoted, hes had hes day,but its his time to move on C.O.Y.F.I

  10. Well your on the "front line" so to speak Slippery, so you know better than many and probably most. I don't suppose there's any chance of Allarbuckle taking the mascot with him ? I thought a mascot was a bulldog, or a goat with a flash blanket !

  11. Bubbles the bear and that stupid cross eyed mongy thing HammerHead..perhaps a combination of the 3 of 'em' A.P. 'AllarBubblesHammerBuckleBearHead'...the West Ham Shop would make a killing if someone wanted that name on the back of their WHU football shirt

  12. #2 son is right, he's already gone. I've become obsessed with him getting slung, so much so that I can't see the football anymore (not that there is much) only my own rage.
There's one season to make it sweet for the move. What happened to Leeds and Portsmouth should be illegal, but if ever there was a time to spend it is now. A modern gaffer and a couple of class recruits along with "The Return of Ravel Morrison." With A small stake in Smitty's"Real London-Real football" tours, and the ghost of Ron Greenwood will lead the faithful and the necessary new punters, pied piper style, up and over to the new temple of total football, where, as in Slippery's vision," the devil known as Sam" will be chained inside a glass box being repeatedly buggered by the decomposing nylon pulp that is "Bubbles".
That last bit is a bit much and probably not necessary for the wellbeing of WHU- my apologies. But I'd like to see it!

  13. F.R. Gold and Sullivan probably have an 'under the counter' video of that already
in their Private Shop down Upton Lane

  14. No quarter for Allardyce at Saitch, according to us he'll be lucky to escape with just the sack !

  15. Just for laughs does anyone want to speculate what would happen if we did beat Spurs?
    Alf still history?

    ReplyDelete
  16. I certainly think so Smitty . Shame if we do actually pull it off - they won't announce it as part of a post match celebration. Can you imagine the sound of Bubbles" to that double header ?

    ReplyDelete
  17. I think he's still gone too, but what I/we think doesn't matter.
    Would sound fine to me.

  18. Sam is definitely gone at the end of the season, I think the better question is it worth building our team around AC?

    ReplyDelete
  19. For my money AC has not been that impressive since his return, which may not be all his own fault. I wouldn't build a team around him, but I would get him a quality strike partner and see how he fares under a new gaffer. I would also get Ravel back pronto and see how he fares - now there's a lad that it might be worth building a team around, but we need someone to bring him on and Alf hasn't got a clue how to develop raw talent like that !

    ReplyDelete
  20. I agree. He might be OK as A striker, but pretty useless as THE striker.

  21. I know 5 years is several lifetimes in football Smitty, but he did get 17 goals in 39 games on Tyneside. Is there any tiger left in his tank ? Sod Shakespeare - That Is The Question !

  22. Without going deep into it, it was a different team system and he was so much younger then, much younger than today. Keener and arguably less fried/ jaded/ injury scared.
Not saying he's finished but on this and last season's showing it's not inspirational play.
Hopefully we'll find out next season, in a different system.
