Sam Allardyce Stays

  1. I wonder if they talked to anyone to see if they'd take over. And if so, who? I think they've taken a gamble and dissatisfaction could grow if it's more of the same early doors next season. Still it would be a gamble if they brought someone in. They need to grow the crowds in preparation for the move, and that means success is vital come september. The stakes are a little bit higher.

  2. Word is the put out two "feelers" and got a no to both Filthy. Any big guns would have been way above their budget ("Budget ? Wot budget ?"), not only the wages, signing on fees and staff, but the transfer war chest too !

  3. "no other choice" - a sad commentary.
May well be true though if the world sees the boys have all been programmed to one up hoof.
A ringing endorsement though as far as I can see, footie by committee next year.
Gonna be exitin!! None of that mid table complacency for us.

For starters anyone thing Ravel will be here next year?

  4. The players that can play won't forget how to Smitty, they just may be told not to anf obviously anyone Alf wants to bring in is going to lend himself to the Tupper method. Having said that he now has to get someone's approval although I'm not sure who's ? Madame Brady perhaps ? or Jack Sullivan's ?

As for Ravel, it will be interesting to see what happens - if he can't work with the manager I hope they loan him out for the entire season, so that we can get another bite of the apple next summer.

  5. Far as I can see we'll be lucky to get anyone if everyone has to have a say in it.
There aren't many plonkers( Alf) with flair( New attacking coach & the Daves) for cheap (Everyone) out there.

We have Ravel who would seem to be what we want but if he can't get on with Alf
and Nolan has to play .......?

    ReplyDelete
  6. Well Nolan 'having to play" is a whole other kettle of fish, it may well be "under the counter" but I'm sure Curtis (Nobby's, Alf's, AC's, Adrian's and a couple of others agent) will have an opinion on that.

I'm imagining that anyone new on the attacking coaching staff won't be picking the team, just trying to get some of them to grasp the concept of scoring ?

    ReplyDelete
  7. I think that will be the fun of all this, everyone will have a opinion and everyone will have a say
When everyone's had their say and we end up with a mishmosh , at the end of the day does Alf even know anything about entertaining attacking footie or is he gonna be learning on the job.
You could go on forever but it's basically not looking good.
    Let's hope I'm / we're all wrong.

    ReplyDelete
  8. He doesn't know and refuses to learn. I'm sure he's Mrs is thinking about where they'll be living next summer - "Back North would be nice wouldn't it Sam". We've gone from a football club to a bloody soap opera - I blame a"Eastenders" myself ! It's probably considered authentic !

  9. Can't argue with any of that !!

  10. Just came across this via West Till I Die:

    http://www.standard.co.uk/sport/football/west-ham-coowner-david-sullivan-we-want-to-finish-in-top-six-9424343.html

David Sullivan looking for a Top Six finish ! I don't know whether you'd file that under Science Fiction or Comedy ? Maybe MR 51% has come up with a new genre ?

  11. (Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal, Tottenham, West Ham) one of these is not like the other

    ReplyDelete
  12. Tottenham Don't Hurt 'Em the only club on the list that tried to nick the ground another team was (IS) going to and then tried to buy the one they were leaving !

But back to the point you were making - it looks even sillier written down doesn't it ?
Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Liverpool, Arsenal and West Ham ! And next season to boot !

    ReplyDelete
  13. Surely you mean West Ham, Chelsea, Man U, Man City, Liverpool and Arsenal.

"We start next season with three competitions, two of which we can win and we have to be dreaming of winning the third one," he is quoted as saying in the Evening Standard.

so League cup & League champs in the bag, right?

BFS on de Fence and as soon as we cross the halfway line Coach X leaps into the tech box & BFS sits down. Not only will he become SSS but we'll have the buggers so confused Downing will be able to nip down the line and swing it right onto AC's nut . Make a nice change.

McCartney's off . I thought he did alright, solid but not spectacular. Probably one of our best oofers. Should have been good for another year. So who we got there? or in the new & improved WHU new blood movement are we gonna throw Danny P in the mix alternating with The Relegator.

Next season is gonna be a giggle alright.
As of now wouldn't give better than evens we don't go down.

    ReplyDelete
  14. I think you're being a bit unfair to Mr 51%, I think he means the FA Cup and The League Cup (whatever it's called now) are in the bag, with the title a "dream",but no lower than 6th place ! Whatever he's on, it's either very strong or he takes a lot of it !

I agree we could do worse than Ringo Smitty, I'll reserve judgement until we see who's coming in at the back. Would be nice to see Danny Boy Potts get some time, but I'm not holding my breath.

As far as a finish goes 13th or lower.

    1. Sorry, what was I thinking.

Well if that was one of the 3 players "we need" and there is 20M in the pot , what do you get for 6.3M? Not a lot I think. I'd like to see DP get a shot now and then and to be fair The Relegator ain't that bad - but to get us to 6th!!

      http://www.oddschecker.com/football/english/premier-league/relegation

As of now we're 10th. 10th most likely to get relegated. TBH I can't see some of the others "above " us as likely.

  16. Should be interesting season? Don't agree with management by committee could be a complete farce. Tell BFS what is expected and let him get on with it. Can't believe they don't have a say about transfers already, it's their money. Let's hope it all works out somehow.

    ReplyDelete
  17. Bottom line George, of course it will work out - managers change, players change (I expect Noble to be a lifer), owners change, even grounds change, but for the most part the fans remain. What the fans bring to the club and the culture they keep that's what's important - we'll come through and on the Irons-A-Coaster (as Smitty calls it) there's rarely a dull moment !

    1. True and some will always be there , but I get the feeling there will be lot staying in the boozer with the 46" plasma. Be a lot cheaper and has an off switch.

Ta for the nod. This year I'm hoping for a real coaster ride but I get the feeling it will be a long gentle downward slope with a small bump at Xmas at Plan B time.
I really do hope I'm wrong but with Sam at 60, too old/ pig headed to learn and publicly forced to get an "assistant". I'd say "3 bags full, Sir?", carry on for the year, take the 50 gazillion or whatever, move back to the Bolton Manor & summer house in Skeggy, drink Mild & Moet and wait for some other desperate bu**ers in the Championship.
I think he'd love to get us send down and blame it on the Daves, no money etc.

  18. Expect the unexpected Smitty - one can dream of a slap up feast, at least until the usual lard on toast actually arrives !

    ReplyDelete
  19. LoT- brekky of champions!! Gives you a lardarse after a while though.

    Teddy Sherringham in the frame?

Sheringham said: “I spoke to Sam and asked for a few days to think it over. It certainly appeals.
“The job is on a part-time basis, a couple of days a week and I’ll be on the bench for home games.
“The club is not far from me and one for which I have a lot of affection. I really enjoyed my time there.
“It is also a chance for me to experience the coaching side of the game, something I have never really done before. I would enjoy working with the front players.”
Sheringham is going to Ireland on Saturday to get his coaching badges on a two-week course.

    Translation:
Coupla stops on the bus, gets me out of the house Tuesdays and Thursdays.
Money's not bad. Free seat for the games. Maybe get a game when ACs acting like a real plonker
Looks good and lets BFS get on with it. Lard again, slim chance of beans now and again.
I like him, but is it the answer?

  20. Lives in Chingford Smitty, not far from the station, although he aint a public transport merchant and the training's not on Green Street anyway. It would be the same drive as when he played for us, I can't see how AC and Carlton wouldn't pick up a tip or two and being as we only have 2 strikers it shouldn't be overwhelming. Now id they'd offered him to coach the Ladies Team, he'd have been in there like a penalty shot !

    1. AP - You get my drift though.
HDHE - I don't think anyone thinks BFS will or even can play any other way.
So it just a stroke and a few bob more down the drain.
Wouldn't mind seeing him back on the pitch though, couldn't be any worse / slower even if he is an old codger .

    2. Only 2 days a week and no traveling so Teddy's probably not even that expensive.

      Delete
  21. Hahaha i dont think that signing an "attacking coach" will do anything to change Sam style when he gets worried about points, but I dont think having Teddy could do any harm

    ReplyDelete
  22. I cant believe AC getting two goals is being accepted, in 2005 Sheringham got 21 goals Harewood got 22 and Zamora got 13, it was the championship but still those are striker numbers

    ReplyDelete
  23. Damn, and I used to say we need better than Harewood (110% effort, but no room for further improvement) and Zamora (who got Arry's QPR promoted yesterday). As for Teddy he was what ? 39 years old that season ? My'O'My how far we have fallen !

  24. All I have to add is wait till next year. I have concluded that in Baseball everything is either dumb luck or a simple twist of fate. Once in a blue moon aligning of the stars when destiny takes precedent over players, managers & owners diddling about. That's what seems to be occurring with my San Francisco Giants this year.
The Giants are 31-18, the best record in the National League. The Oakland A's are 30-19, the best record in the American League. It's still early in the season and usually nobody makes a prediction or even mentions the possibility of this occurring until July 1st. The Giants have a curse called the June Swoon that pops up every few years. They start great and everything falls apart in June. I don't think I'm jinxing things mentioning it here. All you are Englishmen and don't give a shit. Just to be safe "mums the word".
25 years ago exactly, the Giants and Oakland A's had the first and only Bay Bridge World Series. I had just moved to Florida from SF and had to fly back for this back for this. My dad was still alive and he had some connections and got tickets for the first two games, which were in Oakland. The Giants lost both and had to fly back. The next game was in San Francisco and I turned on the TV at game time to see the stadium being evacuated because of an earthquake. Usually that's no big thing out there, but the next thing they showed was a section of the Bay Bridge that had collapsed! Chaos & confusion ensued.
There was a lot of structural damage, but I don't remember many deaths. Candlestick Park had a little damage also and the series was delayed for two weeks while they sorted out the entire Bay Area. When they started the games again everybody seemed shell-shocked except the A's who won the next 2 games. So the first Bay Bridge series was a 4-0 sweep.
The SF Giants didn't win a world series until 2010 and again in 2012! It's now 2014 and here's where numerology comes into play. I think it's preordained that they win every other year until at least 2020.
I definitely will not be going back this time, even if I won front row tickets. With all this crazy weather and global warming I'd probably trigger a tsunami that would wash the beautiful new stadium on the bay out to sea. Victory & Revenge! Nothing better.
There was also a good omen for the Hammers on TV over here last week. I don't know if you get HBO over there but Andy can check this out. There's a comedy called Veep that has Julia-Louis Dreyfus as the Vice President. Last week's episode was called UK something. She's in England and has a photo op with the prime Minister in a pub. She can't understand the pub owner when and thinks he says what kind of ham do you like. He says "West Ham United my football team". (I'm paraphrasing that but you get the gist.) I was probably the only guy in America who got the West Ham reference. I think the guy who writes the show is English, so maybe he slipped it in with a wink & nod, nudge nudge thing or whatever the saying is. I think I might drop the Clueless from my name next season. I think the least you will do next year is finish 6th and win one game from Manchester!

  26. There used to be an old saying about The Hammers, Clueless: "West Ham are like Xmas Tree decorations, they come down in January". Back in the day it wasn't untrue either, our then glamourous style of play was only suited to playing on fresh cut grass as the English winter set in all pitches turned to mud.

Good spot on the Pay Per View Hammers reference, there might be another person who got it - word is Obama is a Hammers' man too - he definitely went to a match at The Boleyn Ground, with relatives before he hit the big time ! That might even cut him some slack with HRH The Queen !

    ReplyDelete
  27. That's interesting about Obama. I know he's a fan of the American version of House of Cards. He even asked for a "Spoiler Alert" until he had a chance to watch the 2nd season. I also heard that the entire White House was into Veep. Maybe it was a shout out directly to The Man!
I even saw Biden doing a comedy skit they showed at that WH correspondents dinner where he was showing the Julia-Luis Dreyfus character around the West Wing. Though it is weird when the President does standup at those things.
That Veep show is pretty funny. More F-words per minute that that infamous episode from the first season of The Wire.

    ReplyDelete
  28. The "WH correspondents dinner" Clueless ? Would that be the West Ham Press Office nosh up at Ken's Cafe ?

    ReplyDelete
  29. White House & West Ham. Same initials. Another coincidence? I think not.

In case anyone is looking for the Veep episode, it's called "Special Relationship." Season 3, Episode 7.

  30. so farewell then joe cole ( and Collison and McC)I guess it was too much to ask for his return to be anything more than it was, but it still feels sad. Where next for him?

    ReplyDelete
  31. Joe Cole's return was not exactly the return we hoped for, was it Filthy, although he might have prospered in a different set up, we''ll never know. Collison never recovered from his knee injuries and Ringo had definitely seen better days - remember, Curbishley quit over his sale ! Joe Cole to the USA surely - he fits the bill perfectly, no ?

    ReplyDelete
  32. Yea, shame about Joe. I think the heart was there and enough skill but the body just didn't have it anymore. Personally I think it's another case of BFS not having a clue what to do with players that don't fit into his ideals. I'm sure there are loads of places that would be glad to have him. Cue 'Arry?
    Said my bit about Linda.
Collison, never the same , but good luck to him I'm sure he'll find a home. Prolly in the Championship somewhere.
