West Ham v Arsenal

  1. Not a bad showing. 1 up before we lost the plot for a bit, not too shabby. Coulda got odds on that.
AC looking good, seems a bit rusty understandably but came close a time or two.
$ for $ I think we did ok, doesn't get us any points but we didn't get a shell-ackin.
    I'll get me coat now.

  2. Glad to see you hold firm Smitty. A reality check for sure, but no suprise. The squads coming along and we look stronger than we have in some time, but better than The Gooners ? Not yet. Mo's goal was a cracker and both AC and Nobby Nolan could have had one. I still want to see Yossi on the pitch and I'm sure I'm not alone there - C'mon Alf start him !

  3. Outgunned in terms of creating and taking chances, but i agree it was a good performance. Good enough against most teams. Sad to see vaz out for a while, but maybe a chance for Yossi?
On with the next...(after San Marino and Poland)

  4. Must confess that I have no idea how long Vaz Te will be out for Filthy, will have to have a poke about and get back to you on that one. At least it happened just before the International Break and alsowe do have some depth of squad, which is just as well considering all the yellow cards we've been picking up.

  8. Howdy Club Penguins, Smitty and Filthy Rich (both regulars here) deserve much of the praise when it comes to the written word. Please feel free to chime in any time.

  9. Looks like Vaz te's out for 6 weeks, having an operation on his shoulder. Still with A/C getting some match fitness minutes with ingerrrland it could be worse.
    Welcome Christian and Club penguins.

  10. 6 Weeks Ouch ! Still if AC is to take that ferry back across The Mersey in January, at least Vaz will be back (not like for like I know but both attacking/goalscoring options. Speaking of goals, Modibo "Van" Maiga just grabbed one for Mali, which won't do his confidence any damage at all.

  11. Yeah, Ouch!
Still at least it's his pushing arm , not his punting foot. Could be worse.
Nice to see you CPs & CW. Always a treat to see one or two more unpartisan ( Ahem!) voices.

  12. So...another 6 days until the next Blog...what to do, what to do....
what happens if/when West Ham move to the redundant Olympic stadium? I presume the Boleyn will be flattened with a "buy your own west Ham plastic seat" sale to raise more money. Then developed into luxury flats for folk to live in. Who owns the freehold? Gollivan? West Ham then rent the Olympic stadium but have the loot from the sale of Boleyn in their back pockets?
myself, I favour teams staying put purely for historic and nostalgic reasons. None of this franchise stuff.
I see the practical benefits like shopping malls on the outskirts of towns, but they're soulless places and leave empty soulless town centres in their wake.
I know it ain't how it used to be.....but maybe it should be!

  13. As previously stated I'm all for the move to The Olympic at Stratford if the Gullivan's can get us a decent deal and if it happens, I shall cry like a baby when the close the Boleyn ground. The Game has changed, the World has changed, London has changed and West Ham must change too. Theres no chance of re-developing Green St and leaving a new improved Boleyn (ground not pub) intact. There's also no chance of the kind of public transport/parking facilities a football ground of the future requires. I see that Liverpool are now talking of staying at Anfield and I bet if they do the surrounding area will be compulsorarily (?) purchased and flattened. The Green Street that I want has already gone, so if there is to be a future for WEst Ham, let it not be a crappy one. My starter for ten Bamber !

  14. VAZ TE UPDATE - According to the official WHUFC site Vaz had surgery Monday and now starts what might well be 12 weeks of rehab. I think that makes it a double OUCH !

  15. Sad but practical Mr P! they probably don't serve Bovril anymore either. ("I'll have a Grande Soy milk, double shot bovril please mate"!Do you know who owns the ground?

  16. Fair Cop Filthy, I'll have to fess up that I'm uncertain. Once upon a time it was rented from the Catholic Church and I don't know for sure if we bought since then or not. My feeling is that we did, but I can't find confirmation (no pun intended). I've put the question to my man in Caracas and hopefully he will provide the answer. Meanwhile, the pies are still cold and the beers still warm, but my last visit to Green St. was on a sunny August Saturday afternoon (Curbishley's Last Stand) and I didn't think to check if Bovril was still on the menu.

  17. You must have an instinct for a story Filthy. Not only does my man in Caracas not know who owns the Boleyn Ground, but neither does Iain Dale (guvnor of West Ham Till I Die site) ! Whom to ask next, that is the question and cue "Devils Gallop" !

  18. Interesting...my fear would be that the ground can be sold, someone makes money, then RENTS the Olympic stadium, 5 years(or whatever) down the line Olympic people decide they want to use it for something else and then it's "homeless united FC" if the current owner decides he can't/won't spend/borrow x hundred million to build a new stadium. And where would that be?
Maybe I'm paranoid. (they shouldn't have these international breaks- the mind wanders...)

  19. Filthy in "5 years(or whatever" the "x hundred million" you mention will probably be the price of a decent striker. Glad to hear your just wandering, I was beginning to wonder if you were considering some property speculation on a grand scale !
